Combine two legendary northern icons in one dramatic trip. Accompanied by your Dene guide, cruise the headwaters of the mighty Mackenzie River (Dehcho) from Fort Providence to Fort Simpson. Immerse yourself in the culture of the Dehcho. Then take flight over Nahanni National Park Reserve, to view Virginia Falls, and spectacular mountain scenery at this World Heritage Site.
Day 1: Edmonton to Yellowknife
Start your adventure flying North on Monday evening travelling on Canadian Nort, from the great city of Edmonton Alberta to the diamond capital of
the world, Yellowknife, NWT. Board the shuttle for the Explorer Hotel for a quick 8-minute ride to your hotel. Check in, sit back and relax or
spend an hour or two exploring the downtown of Yellowknife, under the bright skies of a northern summer night.
Day 2: Yellowknife to Fort Simpson
You will travel from Yellowknife to the community of Fort Providence in a luxury air-conditioned SUV driven by your Dene host and guide. Watch out
for free roaming Wood Bison along the way, as they are almost always watching our northern guests drive by. Arrive in the community of Fort Providence
located on the banks of the mighty Mackenzie River. After a brief tour of the community and a stop at the arts and crafts store, lunch will be
served at the Snowshoe Restaurant. Now it’s time to cruise the headwaters of the mighty Mackenzie in the comfort of a 22 ft. covered harbour craft
powerboat. Travelling on the second longest river in North America you will learn about the cultural significance of the Big River to the Dene
people. You will retrace the 1789 journey of the great explorer Sir Alexander Mackenzie from Fort Providence to the beautiful village of Fort Simpson,
located on an island at the confluence of the Mackenzie and Liard Rivers.
Day 3: Flying the Nahanni
Head off for an adventure of a lifetime in the DehCho region of the Northwest Territories. You will be picked up and taken to the Fort Simpson float
base to board your chartered floatplane for your flightseeing trip into the famous Nahanni National Park Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The duration of your breathtaking Nahanni adventure will be from 5-6 hours with a stop and some time to hike and explore one of Canada’s highest
water falls, the awe-inspiring Virginia Falls. Enroute your pilot will share the legends of Deadmen Valley, Headless Range, Funeral Range, Death
Lake, and Crash Lake Canyon. This is one of the most scenic trips in all of Canada so be sure to have your camera charged and ready to go. Once
back in Fort Simpson, time for dinner and a chance to reflect on the memorable day you just experienced flying in the majestic Northwest Territories.
Day 4: Historical Fort Simpson to Edmonton
After a good night sleep and early breakfast, it’s time for the Fort Simpson Historical walking tour. A historical walking tour will introduce you
to the cabin of prospector Albert Faille as well as the Papal Grounds and Fort Simpson Heritage Park, which was probably the location of the first
